Beyond the Genocide in Gaza. What is a Political Documentary Film Today?
The essay focuses on two contemporary political documentaries – No Other Land (Basel Adra, Hamdan Ballal and Yuval Abraham, 2024) and The Settlers (Josh Baker and Louis Theroux, 2025), which reveal the colonial and occupational dynamics of the Israeli state and the situation of the Palestinians. The authors analyse the film forms that attempt to capture the world’s derailment as the Israeli military intensifies its offensive on Gaza, declaring it a combat zone without tactical pauses. Within this framework, a discussion of the two films becomes a necessary gesture of political solidarity and witnessing, for it goes beyond mere representation to the very question of the possibility of survival.
