In April 2015, a mini-festival was organized in Ljubljana celebrating the 101st anniversary of the birth of Mario Bava, a renowned Italian director. His son, Lamberto Bava, also a film director, attended the festival and contributed valuable insights regarding the work of his father, as well as his grandfather, Eugenio Bava. Regrettably, most of Mario Bava’s films had never received proper distribution in former Yugoslavia, and therefore remained unknown to the general public. On the other hand, his work has drawn the attention of our connoisseurs of the classical orrore and giallo movies, with the above mentioned festival being one of the results of this attention. The work of Mario Bava and his Italian heirs has exercised a great influence on many European and American genre filmmakers. This influence continues to grow, extending to certain countries of the Far East, including Korea.
