On Mourning
With her first feature film Moja Vesna (2022), Sara Kern continues her film oeuvre on loss and mourning. Her films focus on the perspective of a child, looking into the world of adults, which is full of dark, complicated and chaotic emotions that are out of reach to the innocent gaze of a child. Moja Vesna is thus a film about a complex relationship between two sisters, the search for a mother figure, coming to terms with teenage pregnancy, loss and escape from reality. Yet, in its undertones, it also opens the subject of immigration, similar to the director’s own experience of moving to Australia.
