Soundtracking the Picture
The text conceptualises the use of sound in films through three examples: the way Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest (2023) materialises the horrors of genocide through sound, the way David Lynch establishes sound as the medium of the unheimlich in his work and the way Andrei Tarkovsky inscribes the subject into the sound materiality.
