The Privilege of Duality
On the Passage of Motifs and Images in Films by Anja Medved and Nadja Velušček
Nova Gorica and Gorizia seem as different as night and day, the future and the past. The films by the directorial duo Anja Medved and Nadja Velušček explore the border area of Gorizia. Their body of work is characterised by the recurring motifs of duality, the border, nature, and passage. In addition, certain images also recur, as the same archival or obtained footage is used in several films. The persistently present motifs and images paint an optimistic picture of the Gorizia space and its inhabitants. What stands out is the idea of life in the border area as a source of identity and a privilege that needs to be maintained in the community.
