The Political as Part of the Everyday in Goran Dević’s Documentaries
In his documentaries, Goran Dević often returns to his hometown Sisak, whose fate is typical of former industrial towns in post-transitional Croatia. It is characterised by high unemployment and emigration rates. As the town was on the frontlines of the Yugoslav wars in the 1990s, its residents are still dealing with the consequences. By analysing Dević’s documentaries, I will try to illustrate how the filmmaker documents the state of contemporary Croatian society.
