A Meteor Intervention into the Political Repression of a Certain Time
Meteors (Meteorlar, Gürcan Keltek, 2017) is a docufictional essay about the Turkish–Kurdish conflict that, over the summer of 2015, escalated into a war. The film skilfully moves between the personal and poetic perspective of Ebru Ojen, a Kurdish poet and actress, and the recycled, private clips of clashes in the streets that engulfed southeast Turkey after a violent military siege of Kurdish towns. This is rounded off into a significant visual memory of a turbulent and specific time in history that finds just the right balance between the earthly and the etheric when it poetically intertwines the state of war with a cosmic intervention of a meteor shower.
