The article focuses on Farahnaz Sharifi’s film essay My Stolen Planet (Sayyareye dozdide shodeye man, 2024) and tries to understand it in the context of the rebellious spirit of Iranian cinema. My Stolen Planet was made in exile in Germany and it depicts the director’s intimate resistance against the ruling regime and the many challenges her homeland is facing while caught in an endless cycle of oppression and violence. Sharifi records everything, constantly (self)reflecting on the political history of Iran, from the Islamic Revolution to the present day. In this way, she affirms her own or, rather, an alternative narrative of the country, which differs from the one imposed by official history.
