Chantal Akerman’s oeuvre includes more than 40 films that, throughout her career, were labelled with different names – feminist cinema, lesbian cinema or Jewish cinema etc. Her work however persistently eludes any clear definition, it does not portray fixed identities, nor does it bring a viewer the pleasure of identifying with the image. Chantal Akerman can be found in nomadic movements that had a great impact both on her oeuvre and autobiography.
