Chantal Akerman: Filmography of Obssession
Banality, repetition and boredom are present throughout Chantal Akerman’s oeuvre, both in form and content. There is an almost obsessive scrutinising of the routine actions of her characters, creating an atmosphere of anxiety and entrapment, sometimes escalating into violence. Love, sex, eating, housework are treated in the same manner. The legacy of the Holocaust and the relationship to her mother, which underly her work in general, are especially apparent in her last film, No Home Movie (2015).
