Girls, Where Are You?
Jelena Gavrilović is a Belgrade-based director who established herself as a piercing and recognizable voice of a new generation with her dynamic film oeuvre, which includes everything from short films to music videos. Her work stands out especially due to her daring placement of adolescent girls in the centre of an otherwise male-dominated post-war Balkans – girls who, (unhappily) enamoured, gracefully defeated, inexperienced, uncertain and still on a journey of finding themselves, nevertheless express their uncompromising female subjectivity with their body movement, space composition and corporeality.
