History, Memory, Post-Yugoslav Cinema: Documentary Representations of Yugoslavia
The article deals with different strategies of remembrance based on documentary representations of life in former Yugoslavia. Topics that are being analysed are mostly connected to notions of nostalgia, late president Josip Broz Tito and war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The author claims that documentary films could be useful as tools of renegotiations of the past(s) and are merely the platforms that different contextual usages of history are being projected on. Thus, films on Bosnian war, for example, can be used in many ways, “explaining” the reasons, but also problematizing various “truths” connected to the conflict.
