The paper deals with the use of artificial intelligence in “restoring” early cinema. I look into the works of Denis Shiryaev that are published on his YouTube channel. I discuss this “restoration” in relation to two concepts – Hito Steyerl’s poor image and Laura U. Marks’s haptic visuality – and try to give it a suitable name – enriched image. The purpose of the paper is to answer whether the enriched image is actually only a formerly-poor-now-rich image and to reflect on the implications of the use of artificial intelligence in “remixing” cinema heritage/footage and on the responses of the public/viewers that comment on the effect of the authenticity of the enriched footage.
