The article attempts to conceptualize the relationship between film spectator, body and identification through a reading of Marguerite Duras’s Destroy, she said (1969). Analysis is based on reference to a wider social context, suggesting that cinema should be seen as a social technology. The method for thematizing these concepts is a hybrid form of essay and theory.
