The text presents the creative process of Jelena Maksimović’s Homelands (Domovine, 2020). In the docu-fiction hybrid that ends as a film essay, the filmmaker, using various film devices and drawing on the memories of her grandmother, who the film is dedicated to, questions her own socio-political context through the connections between the past and the present and between two spaces – her grandmother’s village in the north of Greece and Zemun in Belgrade.
