Waiting for Compassion
The article takes as its starting point the central sequence of A Safe Place (Sigurno mjesto, 2022), in which the director Juraj Lerotić reveals that the film is based on personal experience – whereby the film becomes a meta-film. I draw both on Deleuze and Guattari’s treatment of schizophrenia, the disease that caused Lerotić’s brother to commit suicide, and on Deleuze’s concept of time-image, while also considering the Croatian Public Health Service, which makes any kind of compassion become a sort of a Godot.
