In the article, I tackle two seasons of the quality TV series The Knick. I mainly concentrate on the perspective of approaching the past and the role of the woman and the other Others, which play the crucial role in the progressivistic paradigm of rationalism, in which our contemporaneity is still very much involved. The objectification of the other (sex, race, body, one’s own “soul”) is a necessary condition of the modern paradigm of progress – the “other” paying the price for it. I also analyse the screenplay and come to the general observation that the destiny of all the main protagonists is pessimistically written. This is contrary to the progressivistic era of the beginning of the 20th century and also a projection of the contemporary dystopia.
